Part of the "mighty dog" family, the Boston Terrier was first acknowledged by the American Kennel Club in the late 19th century. The breed first arrived in Great Britain in the early 1920's. The breed is sometimes (though rarely ) referred to as the "Boston Bull". The Boston Terrier is a quiet, friendly dog, who was first bred for pitfighting and controlling vermin. Strong-willed and intelligent yet adaptable. An affectionate breed which is usually even tempered and a good house dog.

The breed is named after the city of its origin and was believed to be first created in 1865 by crossing a British Bulldog with a White English Terrier
