Works as advertised December 3, 2008 Steven C. Bourgeois (Lake Villa, IL) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I wish you could see how funny my dogs acted the first time they got a load of this thing. I put in the batteries and tested it as instructed and my dogs reacted right away. I will say right up front that I am using this indoors. I cannot imagine what could be different about the outdoor vs the indoor unit but I didn't know that a unit designed specifically for indoor use was available until after I received this one. When it worked so well I was not going to exchange it. It took a few days for them to figure out what was going on but they finally got the message. I have an 80lb collie and a 8lb Maltese. What a difference. Yes, this device works as described. I am an audiologist (hearing specialist). In reading the reviews from others who have not had success with this device I would speculate that perhaps those dogs do not have normal acuity at the frequency used by this device. The normal range of hearing for a human is 20Hz to 20,000Hz. I don't know what the normal range for a dog is but presumably it's higher than that of people and the device uses a frequency in that range. If the dog's hearing is not normal in that specific frequency range then the device won't work. So I suggest that if your dog's hearing is normal for a dog then this device should work. Unfortunately there's only one way to find out and that's to try it.
I'm a Believer...It works!!!! December 1, 2008 M. LaBarre (Auburn, Maine) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My Husband came home with a shock collar for a Golden Retriever!! We did'nt have the heart to put it on!! Saw this device and decided to purchase! Our neighbors all have dogs and our golden is always barking around the perimeter of the fence. Our golden has NOT BARKED. He HATES it!!!However, we dog sit our friends Irish Water dog, this device doe not work with him. We're still in early stages (1 week in use) I still feel bad for our Golden. Now I am having to drag him outside and if another dog Barks it sets the device off and my golden starts scratching at the Door. It does work and like with people, All Breeds handle things differently. GOOD LUCK!
Doesn't Work on Paxton November 26, 2008 Barton Talbot If you've decided to try the PetSafe outdoor bark deterrent, I suggest you buy it from a store like Amazon.com that has a good returns policy. After a 2 week trial I determined it had absolutely no effect on my wife's Shih Tsu. Yeh, I followed all of the directions. The yard is about 40'x40' so on it's highest setting it should have provided complete coverage. If customer ratings are to be believed, it works on about half of all dogs. My return to Amazon went without a hitch. Now if I can get my wife to permit using the PetSafe static (zapper) collar I bought, the neighbors may start talking to us again...
Good results November 24, 2008 Richard Hoffpauir (College Station, Texas) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The product stopped my german shorthair pointer and the neighbor's cocker spaniel from barking, but the neighbor's foul tempered chihuahua sometimes ignores the Bark Deterrent if it's barking loudly and continuously. The only minor drawback, for me, is the lack of AC adapter. I wish I could plug it into the outdoor outlet rather than buying 9V batteries. The battery life is good, however.
Save your money... November 24, 2008 D. Berry (Michigan) I have an indoor kennel with 20 dogs I own. I have most of them trained with an electronic collar, so barking is not real bad. I was hoping that this would stop them from barking so I wouldn't have to continuously be trying to figure out which dog was barking to put a collar on them. I really can't tell that this unit is doing anything at all. Back to the collar.
