Not So Great for Hounds or Prolific Barkers December 3, 2008 Julia Jessee (Charleston WV USA) Definitely not the right product for a hound. We have a Treeing Walker that we adopted from the shelter last year, and he barks A LOT. He barks so much that a neighbor called the Humane Officer and complained. We tried the collar on the recommendations of a friend who had used one with much success and our vet. Copper quickly learned that he could bark through the contents of the collar quickly then he was free to bark to his heart's content - much to the annoyance of everyone around. Also, the first collar we received clogged within a week and had to be returned to the manufacturer. The second collar worked fine for a month, with very frequent refillings, and then clogged just like the first one. I will say this for Premier, they are very responsive to complaints and want to work with you to solve any problems. It's unfortunate that this collar didn't work, but we'll keep searching for another solution.
AMAZING September 14, 2008 Amy Adams (Glens Falls, NY United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
"Barky" Sparky, our Cairn Terrier barked at everything, the squirrels he could hear, people walking down the street, from first sight to last, the cupboards bumping in the kitchen, the car doors of everyone in the neighborhood, the toaster, the vacuum cleaner, the neighbor sitting on her porch. When we would let him outside, he went flying out the back door as fast as he could squeeze, just to terrorize everything he could see. We tried the shock collar and he learned to shake his head so that the sensor/shock prongs were not touching his vocal chords, but resting on the side of his neck and then he'd still bark. They also gave him red marks on his neck some times and when it did shock him, he'd coming running to my feet and sit there like he was frightened. Also, with the shock collar, he seemed to learn very quickly to associate the collar itself with the barking deterrent. And when it was off, he knew he could bark freely. With the citronella collar, he's a new dog! And the whole family and household has become more peaceful. He's completely calm now and he doesn't seem to fully realize that the unpleasant spray is associated with the collar itself... he's still quiet even when we take it off at night. He plays and seems happy, and now looking back, it's almost like his own barking was making him more anxious and it was becoming a vicious cycle. The collar is very sensitive to noise. It sprayed him once when he got too close to the vacuum cleaner, so now i put him in another room when I'm vacuuming. It also sprays occasionally if he's playing and growls too loud. Other than that, it has been perfect. For anyone that was worried, he has easily learned to make a small little whine to communicate that he wants something or needs to go outside.
spray collar September 8, 2008 Lynn Schrott we have used this product in the past and been satisfied. The one we purchased worked for a week and then stopped, dispite new batteries. We were disappointed.
Don't forget replacement batteries... March 3, 2008 J. Molley (Seattle, WA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This item is great until the batteries die. They are extremely hard to find as they are weird camera battery size. Buy the refill too. The device is ok, but make sure you put it on the right way - read the directions carefully.

Am finally getting the hang of the collar. Had to have it very tight because my dog has saggy skin and wasn't effective. Would have like the instructions to include something about that.
