great remote January 7, 2009 D. Childers (ky) I never thought I would be so excited about a tv remote but this thing is better than I ever hoped. It is very easy to set up and even easier to use. My wife even likes it and she is not a fan of all my electronic goodies so she was the ultimate test and it passed with flying colors. One touch of "watch tv" or "watch dvd" and this remote does the rest it is simply a great tool if you have several things to control.
Outstanding Remote January 6, 2009 Savvy (USA) This remote ended our remote clutter. The Logitech Harmony 880 replaced 5 different remotes and made the operation of all the electronics easy. We no long need to remember the setting of each component to operate them together. This has ended our operational frustration. I would recommend this remote to EVERYONE! It is easy to program and takes all of the guesswork out of things. It's a great value!
Good control, passable software January 6, 2009 A. GOLDBERG (Pleasant Hill, CA USA) Good news are that I was able to control a zoo of devices with this remote. I have a couple of different DVD players, TV, Receiver, VCR and wireless streaming device - I set up the remote to control them all. There are a few inconvenient hoops one has to jump through - the software works only in presence of an Internet connection and help facility is very confusing. Activities are very helpful, but there's also a usability problem with the control - there's no way to tell it you are in "an activity". For uninitiated: the control lets the user define "an activity", for example: "watch a DVD" or "listen to streaming MP3". While defining "an activity" the user specifies states of all devices participating in the activity, for example:tv is on, receiver is on, dvd player is on, receiver is set to DVD channel, sound controlled by the receiver. I usually start watching a DVD by coming to DVD player, turning it on, putting the DVD in, then closing the tray and hitting "On" buttons on the TV and the receiver while I am out there. Unfortunately, at this point the only option I have with the remote is to control the devices separately, i.e. switching it to the device I want to control at this moment instead of telling it "I'm watching a DVD, so figure out where to change the volume or turn on subtitles on your own." Only if I first hit the activity button on the remote I have the easy option available.
Awesome Remote - Great Price January 6, 2009 Mike Callan We love it! We already owned one model up from this remote and loved ours so we got it for my mother-in-law. Before this remote she was always having problems switching between watching cable, dvds and listening to the radio. It was easy to setup and now she is able to use all her a/v stuff without problem. The help function is great and gets her through any hiccups. This remote actually makes it so you can put all the other 5 remotes in the drawer because it gives you the full functionality for each piece of equipment. We highly recommend it!!
VERY Universal January 6, 2009 B. Romeo (CT, USA) I bought this product for my father Christmas 2008 and I must admit, I was just as excited to start playing with it as he was. Out of the box, the task of getting to know the remote was a tiny bit daunting (but certainly not impossible). I would NOT recommend this remote to someone who is without the slightest technical ability. This remote is very powerful and to be able to unleash its power, you might have to be a bit tech savvy. USING the remote however is a piece of cake once you have it setup. My mother and little sister love it as well. All in all, this remote is extremely universal and once you get past the initial setup (which really isn't that hard) its a dream. The button layout is simple and with the soft keys and the screen, you can do just about anything with it. Awesome!
